Have your say on how councils in Kent and Medway are organised

Government ministers have launched a consultation on the future number of councils in Kent and Medway and the areas they should cover.

Fourteen affected local authorities presented five proposed options for local government reorganisation to the Government, and these form the basis of the consultation.

Six of the 14 councils proposed a four unitary model would offer the right balance between keeping services local and achieving the resilience, efficiencies and opportunities unitary authorities can offer.

For more information on why Dover District Council believes option 4B is best for Kent, please see our Local Government Reorganisation page.

Take part in the Government's Consultation » Deadline for responses is Thursday 26 March 2026.
