Council gives green light to 277 homes in Aylesham

Press Release - 21 June 2016

Planning permission has been granted by Dover District Council for 277 new houses in the east Kent village of Aylesham.

The houses, to be built by Barratt Homes, will form part of the Aylesham Garden Village development, which will ultimately provide 1,200 new houses during the next eight years in a joint venture between the council, Barratt Homes and Persimmon Homes.

Permission for this phase, known as 1B, was granted at Dover District Council’s planning committee meeting on Thursday 16 June and follows a similar application granted to Persimmon Homes earlier this year for 140 homes.

Work began on the site, located off Dorman Avenue North, in 2014 and the first 200 properties have been completed and are now occupied.

Building Aylesham Garden Village continues the original concept of architect Sir Patrick Abercrombie, who designed Aylesham in the 1920s, using crescents and spine roads set around a distinct village centre. The 1920s houses were built for miners working in the then privately owned Snowdown, Betteshanger and Tilmanstone collieries.

Ends.
