Community groups in the district have been given a seasonal funding boost to help local people with the cost of living - as over £50,000 is awarded to 40 different groups for the winter round of DDC’s Cost of Living Community Impact Fund.
DDC’s Community Impact Fund provides funding to help local charities, Community Interest Companies and community groups deliver their key work in our communities.
Funds have been allocated over two rounds, winter and summer during 2024/25, and successful applicants for the winter round of the popular scheme have now been allocated a total of £53,783.56, as chosen by an Appraisal Panel at DDC.
This follows news that over £50,000 was allocated to 34 different groups in the summer round of the scheme.
The winter round of the scheme launched in August, and community groups were invited to apply for funding of £100-£2,500. Applicants needed to show how their project would help bridge the cost of living gap for the benefit of the local community.
Successful applicants who are benefitting from the winter round of the fund include: Royal British Legion Dover White Cliffs branch; North Deal Community Company CIO (Charitable Incorporated Organisation); Wrinkly CIC (Community Interest Company) for a project in Sandwich; Bechange in Aylesham; and Eastry Young People’s Club.
Cllr Charlotte Zosseder, DDC Cabinet Member for Community, said: “We are very pleased to provide this financial support to the successful applicants of our Cost of Living Community Impact Fund, and to be able to support local groups providing help to those who need it the most. Volunteers are essential to the wellbeing of our communities, and this funding will help them to bridge the cost of living gap for people.”
