Leader of Dover District Council Welcomes News on EES Checks

The Leader of Dover District Council has welcomed news that the EU has decided to postpone the introduction of Entry Exit System (EES) checks on 10 November.

Cllr Kevin Mills, Leader of DDC, said: “We are very pleased to hear that the EU will not be introducing EES checks next month.

“We have been pressing Government to find long-term and sustainable ways to manage cross Channel traffic when EES is implemented. This delay will allow more time to ensure we have the infrastructure and technology in place to avoid the devastating impact EES could bring to Dover.

“Our border is extremely fragile, and it doesn’t take much to cause the disruption we sometimes see during holiday getaways with huge queues along the A20 and our town gridlocked. The expected additional disruption EES could bring to our communities, if not managed effectively, should not be underestimated.

“While we await further clarity on when the checks will be brought in, we will continue to work closely with our partners to ensure the needs of our communities are heard.”
