Dover District Council (DDC) is heading out into the community to offer support and advice during Safeguarding Adults Awareness Week 2024 (18-22 November).
A team from DDC will be at locations across the district with partners including Kent Police and Kent County Council to speak to people about safeguarding, how to spot signs of abuse and how to create safer cultures within workplaces and our communities.
On Monday (18 Nov), they will be joining Southeastern at Dover train station from 9.30am to 2pm to speak to people about how to keep adults safe.
Throughout the rest of the week, they will be out in communities giving information to raise awareness about the different types of abuse or harm and how concerns can be reported.
Dates and locations:
DDC will also be providing information on different themes throughout the week including how to recognise exploitation and how to spot ‘cuckooing’, where a vulnerable person’s home is taken over by a criminal.
Cllr Charlotte Zosseder, DDC’s cabinet member for community, said: “Adults can be at risk of different types of abuse, whether that’s neglecting themselves or being treated in a harmful way by another.
“It’s our collective responsibility to look after each other and let the right people know when we spot something of concern.
“But this isn’t always easy. Some people may not know the key signs of abuse or feel it’s none of their business. Or perhaps they don’t know who to speak to.
“This is why it’s so important to go out into our communities, like we are for Safeguarding Adults Awareness Week, to raise awareness and empower people by providing them with the tools to help those in need.”
