DDC will be taking to the road once again with its Wellbeing Roadshow to raise awareness of the importance of positive mental health.
This year, following on from its success in 2022 when it visited River, Walmer and Wingham, the roadshow will stop in Dover, Deal, Sandwich and Aylesham.
It will begin during Mental Health Awareness Week, which launches today (May 15), and will promote the importance of positive mental health through four events in May with the Community Roots Van.
DDC will join partner agencies who will give support, talks and advice on the risks of social isolation and the importance of human interaction within communities. They will also give tips on how to improve your own mental health.
Three activity-packed sessions will be held for families as part of the roadshow in Dover, Deal and Aylesham, with music, games and the chance to have a go at a Speed Cage.
Wednesday, 17 May, 10am-2pm, Guildhall Car Park, Sandwich:
The Wellbeing Roadshow’s first stop will support the Sunflower Centre in Sandwich, which is running a Dementia Awareness Roadshow, with a specific focus on dementia and mental health in older people.
You’ll get to hear from a number of organisations including East Kent Independent Dementia Services, Alzheimer’s Society, Age Concern Sandwich, Lifeline 365 and Crossroads Care.
DDC officers and supported housing will also be there alongside Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS), social prescribers, Get Out Get Active (GOGA) plus many more agencies.
The Wellbeing Roadshow's next stops will be on the following dates, when you can join DDC with the Community Roots Van and enjoy music and games as well as have a go on the Speed Cage – an inflatable challenge where people of all ages can test their skill and accuracy at football, rugby, cricket and tennis!
Tuesday, 23 May, 2pm-5pm, Connaught Park, Dover
Tuesday, 30 May, 11am-2pm, Walmer Green, Deal
Thursday, 1 June, 11am-2pm, Aylesham Health Centre, Queens Road
Organisations including Mind, NHS One You, Take Off, Rethink and GOGA will also be there with advice and guidance on positive mental health.
