Dover District Council is looking to review rules on dog control, street drinking, and unauthorised camping - and your views are sought.
DDC’s Cabinet has agreed to begin consultation on the renewal and amendment of two Public Spaces Protection Orders (PSPOs). This includes proposals on:
- Dog fouling
- Where people can walk their dogs
- Where dogs need to be on leads
- Alcohol consumption in public places
- Unauthorised camping.
The proposal is to merge the two existing orders to make the rules easier to understand and enforce.
PSPOs specify an area where activities are taking place that are or may likely be detrimental to the local community’s quality of life. PSPOs impose conditions or restrictions on people using that area.
The PSPO relating to alcohol does not make it illegal to carry alcohol or to drink alcohol in a public place so long as drinking is done responsibly. A PSPO will only be used to tackle potential alcohol related anti-social behaviour. Under these circumstances Police and designated Council Officers will have the power to stop people drinking alcohol and seize or confiscate alcohol within the restricted area.
Cllr Martin Bates, DDC Cabinet Member for Regulatory Services, said: “We know that these issues cause concern for local residents. The renewal of these orders is based on feedback from the local community, so we hope to hear more from local people during the consultation.”
The consultation begins today, (21 February 2022), and the deadline for comments is 14 March 2022. For more information, or to have your say, please see the consultation page at www.dover.gov.uk/Public-Spaces-Protection-Order
