An exciting new event aimed at helping people overcome setbacks to get them back into the workplace is being held in Aylesham.
Advance to Work, organised by Dover District Council and the Department for Work & Pensions (DWP), will offer support through a host of providers as well as possible job opportunities from employers.
It is aimed at people who feel they are being held back by their mental or physical health, or perhaps have been out of work and lost their confidence.
Organisations including the Education People, Kent Coast Volunteering, ASPIRE East Kent, GoGa, Talking Therapies and DWP’s Access to Work will be at the event, which takes place on Thursday, December 1, from 9.30am to 12.30pm at Aylesham Workshop Trust.
Wellbeing People will provide free health MOTs on the day and the Shaw Trust will have a mental health employment advisor on hand as well as representatives from its work and health programme, and its individual placement and support scheme.
Employers attending include Avon and HRGO Recruitment, with more due to be announced ahead of the event.
There is no need for a diagnosed health condition to attend.
Cllr Derek Murphy, cabinet member for skills and education at DDC, said: “This event brings together organisations which can offer the support and advice needed to get people into the workplace long-term.
“It is important that, as well as employment opportunities, we offer help through providers who can identify what support someone needs to improve their confidence and job prospects.”
Matthew O’Neill, disability employment advisor at DWP, said: “You might be looking to increase your income but not sure where to start, perhaps due to a health condition, or maybe you've been out of work for a while and have lost confidence.
“This exciting event will include a variety of organisations which can help you to identify suitable support and help you to reach your potential.”
