Dover District Council launches campaign to help local tourism bounce back
Dover District Council has launched a new campaign to help the local tourism industry bounce back once the lockdown is over.
The campaign designed around Dame Vera Lynn’s famous WWII rallying call, “We’ll Meet Again” features a toolkit for local tourism and hospitality businesses, along with a series of striking images for use in promotional materials.
Whilst the current advice remains for everyone to stay home, protect the NHS, and save lives, the campaign aims to ensure that the district is well prepared to benefit from the pent-up demand for people to get outdoors.
Cllr MJ Holloway, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Tourism, said: “Everyone has done a great job in following the government advice during the lockdown. This has understandably had a big impact on our local visitor economy.
“We’ve worked hard to support the local hospitality and leisure industry by ensuring that eligible businesses have access to government funding to see them through the lockdown.
“The district has a unique range of visitor attractions, including world famous open spaces that will be popular as the lockdown is eased.
“The launch of ‘We’ll Meet Again’ will help ensure that our local tourism business is well prepared to start to rebuild.”
Staycations are likely to be particularly popular this summer as people come out of lockdown and start to explore their local area.
The Dover district has a wealth of opportunities for people to get out into the great outdoors, including over 200 parks and open spaces; 30 walking routes; nine cycle trails; 57 conservation areas; 48 ancient monuments, and; over 100 visitor attractions.
A dynamic new website and social media campaign is also set to launch this summer giving visitors an interactive insight into experiences and adventures in White Cliffs Country.
