As the country prepares for at least three more weeks in lockdown, eight community and voluntary projects helping support vulnerable people through the coronavirus outbreak have received £14,905 from Dover District Council.
The projects are the first recipients of the Covid-19 Community Fund, launched to help sustain the response of the local community and voluntary sector. Dover District Council kick-started the Fund with £50,000 which has been bolstered with corporate donations of £10,000, including contributions from Megger and Quinn Estates.

Cllr Trevor Bartlett, Leader of Dover District Council, said: “The community and voluntary sector has responded magnificently by expanding and creating new services in response to the challenge of coronavirus.
“These grants will help sustain these lifeline services to some of the most vulnerable people in the community, from providing regular hot meals, delivering essential medicines, or befriending services that provide much-needed social contact.
“With the lockdown extended for at least three more weeks, we’d encourage other local projects to apply for funding.”
Local community and voluntary groups can apply for grants from £250 to £2,500 with a simple online application, and a quick decision process.
