Dover District Council has launched a public fundraising appeal to help sustain the work of local community and voluntary groups as the country enters a further three weeks in lockdown.  The public can donate online through Dover District Council’s website.

The public fundraising appeal builds on the Covid-19 Community Fund, kickstarted with a £50,000 contribution from Dover District Council, along with £10,000 from corporate donors, including Megger and Quinn Estates.

The Fund has already paid out over £14,000 to local community and voluntary projects, including foodbanks, and those involved with the preparation and delivery of meals, collecting and delivering prescriptions and medicines, befriending and buddy schemes, and physical and mental health and well-being.

Many of the projects are working alongside Dover District Council’s Community Hub, providing help and support seven days a week throughout the coronavirus national emergency.

Cllr Trevor Bartlett, Leader of the Council, said: “Local charities, community and voluntary groups are doing a fantastic job in helping the most vulnerable people at this challenging time.  But as we enter a fifth week in lockdown, we know that many of these groups are beginning to feel the pinch.

“By launching a public fundraising appeal we’re providing an opportunity for the public to contribute to the community effort.  Your donation will help these groups maintain their services to the most vulnerable people in the community at this time of national emergency.”

All donations to the Covid-19 Community Fund will go direct to local charities, community and voluntary projects working in the Dover district to help local people during the coronavirus national emergency.

Community and voluntary projects working to support vulnerable people in the Dover district can apply online from grants from £250 to £2,500.
