Dover District Council has extended free parking in all its off-street car parks for ten days to help people shop safely this Christmas and New Year.
With shops now able to extend their daily opening hours from Monday to Saturday, DDC is hoping that the extension of free parking will help to ease crowding and maintain social distancing in town centres.
Covid-19 cases continue to rise across the district.
Cllr Nigel Collor, cabinet member for transport, licencing and communities, said: “As we all start to prepare for Christmas, it’s really important that we continue to protect each other, including all those working hard in retail over the holiday period.
“We want people to shop local, and to shop responsibly. By extending free parking in our car parks over Christmas and New Year we hope people will be able to take advantage of the greater flexibility so they can shop at quieter times to avoid large crowds.
“Remember wash hands, cover face, and make space.”

All other parking restrictions, including on-street parking and single/double yellow line restrictions continue to apply in the district.
