Keeping the community informed as national emergency continues

With the country entering a fourth week in lockdown, Dover District Council has started to deliver a Community Information leaflet from the Leader of the Council to every household in the district.  The leaflet includes contact details for a host of community and voluntary support initiatives offered locally to help the most vulnerable during the coronavirus outbreak, from shopping and home delivery services for meals and medicines, to befriending and mental health support.

Keeping people informed about the latest government advice and updating residents on Council services has been a key focus on the Council’s response to the coronavirus national emergency.  As well as providing daily updates on Council services on its website, Dover District Council has been regularly emailing over 33,000 subscribers to its Keep Me Posted email alerts service.

Residents can also keep up-to-date with the latest developments on the Council’s social media channels, including Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter

Recognising that not everyone has access to a computer or mobile device, Dover District Council has arranged for its waste contractor, Veolia, to deliver the Community Information leaflet to every household in the district.  The leaflet includes contact details for the KCC Kent Together 24/7 helpline, the district council’s Community Hub, and a wide range of community and voluntary groups providing help and support to the most vulnerable groups across the district.

The Prime Minister has also written to every household with a public information leaflet on coronavirus

Cllr Trevor Bartlett, Leader of Dover District Council, said: “Not everyone is online and at this challenging time we want to make sure that everyone has access to the services that are available to help them.

“We’ve all been impressed with how community and voluntary groups have responded to this crisis, and this leaflet provides a useful summary of the support that is out there, particularly for the most vulnerable residents without a support network of family, friends, or neighbours.”

Residents with access to a computer, tablet or smartphone can register for free emails with Keep Me Posted
