Some of the Dover district’s biggest businesses are backing a major fundraising appeal to support the voluntary and community sector
Corporate donors, including Dover-based manufacturer, Megger, and property developer, Quinn Estates are among the businesses that have contributed £10,000 thus far. The Covid-19 Community Fund was launched with a £50,000 contribution from Dover District Council.
Nadeem Aziz, Chief Executive of Dover District Council, said: “Thank you to Megger and Quinn Estates for their contributions, which will make a real difference to the work of many local voluntary and community groups who are working tirelessly to help the most vulnerable during the coronavirus outbreak.
“We’re seeing a fantastic community response with volunteers coming forward to help the most vulnerable with basic essentials, from shopping and meal deliveries, collecting prescriptions, and befriending those self-isolating.
"Despite having challenges of their own, it’s great to see the business community playing their part too.”
Corporate donors who would like to contribute to the Dover District Covid-19 Community Fund should contact Tim Ingleton at Dover District Council (tim.ingleton@dover.gov.uk)
Separately, the Port of Dover has contributed £40,000 to the Kent Community Foundation’s Coronavirus Emergency Fund.
