Work is resuming on the construction of 65 new homes for Dover District Council

Building work on major developments across the Dover district is gradually restarting after closing in March owing to the coronavirus lockdown.  Sites are reopening in line with site operating procedures published by the Construction Leadership Council which align with the latest guidance from Public Health England.

Reduced scale operations as part of a phased return to construction began this week at the William Muge & Snelgrove development in Harold Street, Dover, where contractor Jenner is building 65 new apartments and town houses for Dover District Council in a £12.5 million scheme. As part of new working procedures Jenner is planning a gradual reintroduction of trades over coming weeks, carefully monitoring each stage to ensure that social distancing and safe working practices are adhered to at all times to ensure everyone remains safe and well.

Across town, council contractor DDS Demolition has started work once more on demolishing the former Dover Leisure Centre, albeit with a reduced workforce.

At Aylesham, the district council is a joint developer with Barratt Homes and Persimmon Homes creating the Aylesham Garden Village development of more than 1,200 new properties.  During March and April, Persimmon Homes kept its part of the site open to finish off some homes for waiting customers but was planning to restart in earnest this week depending on the availability of materials.

Barratt Homes has sold all of its current phase of homes on the development and will restart work in a few weeks time.

Although both the Barratt Homes and Persimmon Homes sales offices in Aylesham are closed for the foreseeable future, potential buyers can still view developments online and book phone appointments. The  William Muge & Snelgrove marketing suite in Dover town centre is also shut but potential buyers and anyone inquiring about the site can contact agents, Countrywide on 01304 214129 or e-mail exemplar@countrywide.co.uk

Leader of Dover District Council, Cllr Trevor Bartlett, said: “It’s good to see house building getting back on track once more across the district as construction companies follow the latest government advice to return safely to work.”
