Dover Town Team and Dover District Council are welcoming major news that the Government has today announced that Dover, along with four other transformational projects, has received a share of over £10m from the Coastal Communities Fund.
The 'Dover Soul' project is set to receive £2.44m to increase the number of visitors to the Old Town, seeing the Market Square rejuvenated and the town centre re-established as a leisure destination. Features include improved pedestrian and public transport access, a water feature and green spaces. Year-round events will attract visitors and the wider community to the town centre.
John Angell, Chairman of the Dover Town Team said: “This is a great success story for Dover, and pays tribute to the ground-breaking team work between the Dover Town Team, Dover Town Council and Dover District Council, in achieving this bid in a highly competitive field. As Chairman of this successful bid, I am well aware of the hard work and dedication shown by volunteers, elected officials and council officers who have worked in tandem - now the really hard work begins."
Cllr Keith Morris, Leader of Dover District Council said: "This is fantastic news that will provide a major boost to Dover Town Centre. We are delighted to work with our partners on this transformational project that is bringing key investment into the area. This will complement the range of exciting regeneration that is being delivered for the future of the town and district. Our heartfelt congratulations go out to John Angell and all the Town Team for all their hard work."
