Dover District Council is offering free car parking in all its off-street car parks across the district on Saturday, 30 November. The Council is marking Small Business Saturday one week earlier to coincide with the community Christmas light switch-on events in Dover and Sandwich.
Festive food and entertainment will be the order of the day in the Market Square in Dover (1-5pm) organised by Dover Town Council, and the Sandwich Guildhall (10am-7pm) organised by Sandwich Community Events on Saturday, 30 November. Free parking is also being offered at St James in Dover by Legal & General as part of their Christmas lights switch-on at 5.30pm. Christmas lights will also be switched on in Aylesham on Saturday, 30 November at an event organised by Aylesham Parish Council.
Cllr Nigel Collor, Cabinet Member of Transport & Licencing, said: “We’ve supported Small Business Saturday since its inception so we’re delighted to support the campaign again this year with a subtle change to the date so that we can offer free parking in DDC off-street car parks for the popular Christmas lights switch-on events in Dover and Sandwich. It’s a great opportunity to visit our town centres for Christmas shopping and support local independent traders on the high street.”
Deal will be the first to switch on their Christmas lights on Friday, 22 November, organised by the Deal & Walmer Chamber of Trade.
Parking in DDC off-street car parks will also be free on 24th, 25th and 26th December.
Note to editors:
On-street parking charges will still apply and all other parking restrictions, such as yellow lines will still be enforced.
