Dover District Council has published its 2019 Destination Guide as ‘White Cliffs Country’ gears up for an exciting year of new openings. The 53-page guide is designed and produced in-house and showcases how truly unique and special the tourism offer is in the district, highlighting visitor attractions, events, and leisure activities throughout Deal, Dover, Sandwich and its surrounding coast and countryside.
2019 is set to be another great year for tourism in the district with a host of new attractions coming on stream to compliment the current and diverse range. This includes the new £26m Dover District Leisure Centre, the £9.5m Visitor Centre and Kent Mining Museum at the Betteshanger Country Park (opening 30 March 2019), and in the Autumn the opening of the £1m extension to the café at Kearsney Abbey.
The Port of Dover also opens its new 250-berth marina in the outer harbour in late 2019 and is hosting even more cruise ship calls, including the naming ceremony and inaugural cruise of Saga’s brand new cruise ship, Spirit of Discovery, in July 2019.
Cllr MJ Holloway, Dover District Council’s cabinet member for tourism, said: “The tourism industry is vital to the district’s local economic success and we’re committed to working with our industry partners to create more opportunities and an even stronger visitor economy.
“The district has all the key components. Excellent transport connections to the rest of the UK and with Europe, year-round family-based attractions, great local hospitality, as well as some of the finest heritage, landscapes and nature that Great Britain has to offer. It’s going to be an exciting year as we welcome the addition of new attractions and facilities with even more reasons for people to visit and explore our great towns and villages.”
