Where to Swim
Dover Leisure Centre has a 25m pool and a 10m teaching pool, with a sauna/steam suite attached. The centre offers a Swim School Programme for all ages and abilities and a suitable range of courses.
Tides Leisure Centre Major plans for a new leisure centre in Deal with a six-lane pool, gym, fun inflatable sessions and a toddler splash pad to replace the existing Tides building have been given the go ahead by Dover District Council.
The Tides swimming pool facility will be unavailable to use from the 16 March 2025 until the works are completed. The Sports Hall and Indoor Tennis Centre on the site will remain open during the project development. There will also be a gym offer available for users.

Walmer Paddling Pool is an outdoor paddling pool on Walmer Sea Front suitable for young children. The pool has qualified lifeguards, a refreshment kiosk serving hot and cold snacks, changing rooms with toilets, and deck chairs for hire. Alongside the pool is a grassed games area offering 'Pitch & Putt' and a Bouncy Castle. The pool is open from May to September.
Beaches in the Dover District
Channel Swimming contributes towards Dover's world famous status, presenting open water swimmers from around the globe with the challenge to swim from England to France across the Channel. However for the less adventurous, the beaches along the coastline offer a free family day out:
- Shakespeare Cliff Beach
- Dover Sea Front
- St Margarets Bay
- Kingsdown, Walmer and Deal Beach
