Working for Elections

If you are interested in working on future elections, you can find all the necessary information on this page.

The roles available are Poll Clerks (working at Polling Stations) and Count Assistants (counting the votes).  Once you have worked as a Poll Clerk, you can then apply for the more senior role of Presiding Officer.

We especially seek applications for those wishing to be Poll Clerks, as we usually require fewer numbers of Count Assistants.

Key Information

  • You must be at least 18 years old to work as Elections Staff.
  • You must be entitled to work in the UK (in accordance with the provisions of the Asylum and Immigration Act 2006) and you will be required to verify this by submitting the relevant documentation.
  • You cannot work on behalf of, assist, or sign a Nomination Form for a candidate during an election campaign.  You must also remain neutral throughout the process and must not publish any comment on anything relating to the election anywhere, including on social media and online.
  • Polling and count staff must consent to working in excess of the normal working hours provided for by the working time directive.

Applications for Election Staff are currently paused due to high levels of interest.  An online application form will be added to this page when applications reopen.
