Request
I would like to know if Dover District Council is holding any descriptions or plans of the buildings that were demolished on the south side of King Street in Deal to enable road widening c.1850-60, and if so, can I see this information for the purpose of historical research? King Street in Deal was originally about half the width that it is today, and during the period mentioned, Deal Town Council purchased a row of properties, which were demolished to facilitate road widening. The Title Deeds and any associated plans would have been retained as evidence of legal ownership, and I am wondering if these documents were transferred to Dover District Council when it was established in 1974.
Response
The Council does not hold the information you have requested. It may be that any information that was held by the District Council was passed to Kent County Council when they took back responsibility for highways some years ago. Kent County Council can be contacted at freedomofinformation@kent.gov.uk.
