Request

  1. On 12 September there was a preview evening for DDC Members, as this is a Dover project why were Town Members not invited?
  2. There is nowhere in the Roman Painted House for visitors to sit. If anybody was unwell there is no place to rest. Will DDC please provide some seats in the many empty spaces available e.g. by the entrance and the toilets?
  3. The one fire exit on the side of the building does not seem to be identified as the 'fire exit'. Will DDC ensure it is properly identified as such, for safety?
  4. There has always been a "visitors book" at the Roman Painted House for visitors to make comments and put their address, so there is a record of where visitors come from. Could DDC please restore this long-standing practice which visitors appreciate?
  5. What has been done with the photos and plaques on the walls to mark landmark dates and royal visits? Discarded or stored?

Response

  1. The Mayor of Dover and Town Clerk of Dover Town Council were invited as representatives of Dover Town Council. Numbers were limited to 60 people for the preview evening.
  2. The current arrangement is that office chairs within the Roman Painted House office would be made available if someone was unwell, with staff also on site to help and support as required. First aid is also available on site.  Compliant and safe chairs will be used in the future.
  3. Before opening the building to the public, the entire building received extensive and essential maintenance, compliance and health and safety works. These works included repairs and compliance work, including signage, to the fire exit on the side of the building (nearest Market Square). The building and its fire escapes also undertook robust risk assessment, fire assessment and health & safety sign off all before opening. The 'fire exit' and its signage is compliant and safe.
  4. The Council will consider implementing this ensuring that compliance with GDPR is adhered to.
  5. Due to mould growth these items had to be removed from the building for health & safety reasons and for essential works to commence. Those items that were deemed to be potentially reusable and not beyond recovery were stored.
