Request

We are saddened to hear about the deaths of two young children at Millstead primary school recently. On reading the report from the EM Radiation Trust dated on the 15 July 2024 we are very concerned about the levels of microwave RF radiation measurement recorded at the school, being the highest peak reading ever taken in the UK at 1,554932uW/m. This volume is extremely high and known to cause illness. In Aycliffe School we have 3 of these towers surrounding us, with one actually on site in our car park, 10 meters away from the school. We have never received any risk assessments regarding these masts and have not seen any safety studies relating to the masts either.

I would therefore like to request copies of the safety studies, risk assessments and environmental health impact analysis documents. Please also provide details of the liability Insurance and any other insurance details that the council hold for harm caused by radiation exposure. If you do not hold this information then please provide details of the installation company and the name of who is accountable to provide this information. We would also require that regular readings are recorded to assure us that no harm could be caused to the children, staff or the community of Aycliffe

Response

The Council only holds information in respect of any planning applications received for the cell towers and this is available via a search of the planning portal which can be found on the Council’s website at https://publicaccess.dover.gov.uk/online-applications/search.do?action=simple&searchType=Application.  The Council holds no other information about the cell towers, including the name of any installation company.  The Council has no insurance liability for radiation exposure from any cell towers.

Information about the cell tower on your school premises may be held by the education authority.  The education authority within our District is Kent County Council, who should be able to assist you and can be contacted at the following address: freedomofinformation@kent.gov.uk.
