Request

  1. How many votes were cast in your district/borough on the day for the KPCC election;
  2. How much did it cost in total to run that election?

Response

  1. The total votes cast are listed on the Results page of the DDC webpage which can be found here: https://www.dover.gov.uk/Council--Democracy/Elections/Election-Results/PCC-2024-Declaration-of-local-results.pdf. The number of electors issued with ballot papers at the polling stations on polling day was 8971.
  2. The accounts for the Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) election have not yet been completed as some invoices can take a while to come through. They have to be completed within 6 months of the poll (unless another major election is called within that timeframe) and approved by the Elections Claims Unit run by DLUHC before they are finalised.  To give an idea of timescale and estimated costs, the PCC accounts from the joint PCC, KCC and local by-elections that were held in May 2021 were finalised 2 months ago at a total expense of £125,072.39 for the PCC costs (NB: some costs would have been apportioned between the different councils that the elections were held for and therefore the PCC elections would not have been charged the full cost for certain elements such as staffing, hall hire, equipment etc). DLUHC have assured the RO that their new method of returning accounts will speed up the process, however it is as yet untested so the RO cannot estimate when the accounts for 2024 will be finalised.
