Response

Dover District Council are not a lighting authority but have responded with the information we hold for the limited amount of lighting in our control. The lighting authority for our District is the highway authority who are Kent County Council.  They own and maintain the majority of lights in our District and can be contacted at freedomofinformation@kent.gov.uk.

  1. Dover District Council does not record yearly lighting faults, but it’s estimated to be approximately 150-200 faults out of 2750 lights per year.
  2. Dover District Council are not a lighting authority and so a local lighting contractors is booked every 4 to 6 weeks or once 20 or so faults have been reported by the public.
  3. Lights are 95% of the time repaired at the point of inspection during the maintenance period stated above. However, if the repair is not straight forward and requires second parties to be involved such as the lighting manufacturers for further parts, UK Power Networks for new connections/upgrades and making safe to the power supply, traffic management or necessary road closures for safe access then this can delay a streetlight from being repaired and being put back in operation on said visit.
  4. The latest list of lights to be inspected for repair is 19 locations and these works are booked to be inspected in the first week of April.
