Request

  1. Please could you tell me under the act how many contracts have been awarded to [redacted] at Brachers or to Brachers themselves?
  2. What was the financial costs of these contracts?
  3. Were these contracts noted in the register of interests by [redacted]?
  4. Did [redacted] have any part or knowledge of the procurement process in relation to these contracts?

Response

  1. The Council does not hold any contracts with Brachers, as this is not how external legal advice/work is procured.  I can confirm that the Council has instructed Brachers on 12 occasions since 2014 most recently in March 2020.  The work done by Brachers has been undertaken by a variety of staff employed by them and not solely by one person.  The Council has instructed Brachers itself, rather than individual members of their staff.
  2. As stated above, there are no contracts but the cost to the Council of the work undertaken on our behalf by Brachers is available on the Council’s website as part of the payment to supplier data at https://www.dover.gov.uk/Corporate-Information/Financial-Information/Payments-to-Suppliers/Payments-to-Suppliers.aspx,
  3. As stated above, there are no contracts, but I can confirm that an entry has been made on the Register of Interests in accordance with the obligations under the staff Code of Conduct and also the requirements of Section 117 of the Local Government Act 1972.
  4. No.
