Request

  1. There is much concern about this change from elderly people who have steps and cannot put waste bins on the pavement.  Will the new garden waste wheelie bins be collected from properties where people are unable to put them on the highway if disabled or just removed?
  2. Will those households who have their other waste collected from the premises who are unable to do so have their new garden waste bins also collected from the same place as the other waste (on their premises)?
  3. Why have people on the present list for assisted help with collections not been informed of the arrangements for the garden waste bins?

Response

  1. As with the statutory waste collection service (eg the standard refuse and recycling) if a property cannot accommodate a bin within their curtilage (ie off the highway), or is inaccessible to our collection vehicles, or has multiple steps up/down, such that bins have not been supplied for refuse/recycling collections, then a garden waste bin will also not be able to be supplied.
  2. If a resident already has wheeled-bins for their refuse/recycling collections, and can also accommodate the garden waste bin within their property then a garden waste bin can be supplied.  Existing assisted collections will apply to garden waste collections, if this arrangement is already in place.
  3. All existing subscribers were written to during week commencing 15 January notifying of the change, however, given the limitations on how much detail can be printed and posted, the letter included a link to our website that amongst other things has the Terms and Conditions (that cover assisted collections), and a set of Frequently Asked Questions (that is updated as and when a question is asked frequently).
