Knitted Poppy Appeal
Help us create a carpet of poppies for the 2017 Remembrance Commemorations
We need your help with knitted or crocheted poppies to continue our carpet of poppies to be displayed in the district in the run up to Remembrance Day. This comes as a range of special commemorations are planned across the district to help mark
100 years since the guns fell silent at the end of World War I.
The poppies can be any size and follow any pattern. However, patterns are available on the
Royal British Legion website.
Knitters are invited to leave their poppies at:
- Dover District Council offices
- Dover Gateway offices, Dover Town Centre
- Dover Big Local Hub, in the Charlton Centre, Dover
The project is about communities knitting together, and we're working with the Royal British Legion and Dover Arts Development, alongside other Kent Councils supporting this initiative. Knitters are asked to try to get their poppies to us by 26 October 2018.
This follows the success of last year's appeal, where our communities gave fantastic support and over a thousand poppies were delivered to our local collection points. The poppy carpet featured in a range of locations last year, including the launch of the 2017 Poppy Appeal at Dover Town Hall.
