Equality and Access to services

Read this page

No one would think it was fair or right if someone else was treated in a worse way than them just because they were different, or even worse, if someone were not allowed to use a service just because of this difference. At DDC we recognise that while everyone is different, they have the right to be treated with an equal level of respect and have equal access to our services and facilities.

We are committed to ensuring equality in everything we do both through our service provision and through our responsibilities as an employer. Our Equality Policy (pdf) states our formal position.

Supporting our policy is the Equality Scheme and Action Plan. The Action plan has been reviewed for the year ending 31st March 2008, and the scheme has been updated to show the position as at that date. This can also be found by following the useful links on the left of this page.

Our equality scheme and action plans are under constant monitoring and review, and we will shortly be starting development a new scheme for 2009-2011. We always welcome comments or suggestions from our customers and partners and our contact details are given below.

Through our equalities group we constantly checking what we do to ensure we are reaching all our customers on an equitable basis, and we do welcome feedback and ideas on how we can promote our services to the wide variety of communities in the district.

Firms and organisations that are awarded tenders are acting on behalf of Dover District Council, and we expect them to comply with equality legislation in the same manner as we would ourselves. Further information is available on our procurement pages.

If you need help with a specific issue, please ask our customer services team, telephone 01304 872426 or e-mail customerservices@dover.gov.uk. The team members are all trained to provide help to people with varying access requirements.
