Wind energy is recognised as the world’s fastest growing renewable energy source. Our Gazelle wind turbine was installed on 27 November 2007. Under favourable wind conditions the turbine can generate 20kW of green electricity.
The power generated is used to supply the Council’s buildings or can be fed back into the national grid to provide electricity for local consumers.
The generator hub is 13.0m above ground level with 11.0m blades rotating at 106 rpm. Approximately 98% of the installation cost was funded by grants from EDF, Green Funds/Low Carbon Building Programme/SEEDA.
By installing a wind turbine Dover District Council will:
Wind power is an economical method of generating electricity; it is clean, efficient, reliable and environmentally sound. In addition to the energy savings, the turbine has educational benefits, and due to its prominent position will encourage visitors to consider whether they could install microgeneration equipment on their own homes.
